This summer Aqualandia will turn 33 years old. Previously, we have spoken about our establishment, three years ago, no expense was spared to celebrate our 30th anniversary. We even appeared on the successful TV series Cuéntame and of course, it made us very happy.
33 years are a broad and long path. We are very proud of it and, above all, of having been the first ones. The first ones in Spain at a time in which water parks were nearly unknown in our country. A very different country compared to today.
We were born in 1985, a year which was marked by the accession of Spain to the NATO or to the European Economic Community, which came into effect in January 1986. The year when Aqualandia opened its doors in Benidorm stood out for different riots and strikes, and in the South of Spain something highly desired and expected occurred: the gateway of Gibraltar was opened.
In our first year, negative things also occurred, since a short time after our opening a low-powered explosive device exploded on the Poniente beach. Luckily, no damage was caused and once we got over the shock, we could go on enjoying the intense and fun summer we were having.
The summer of 1985 was a great summer, Benidorm and the province of Alicante received many tourists, people coming from everywhere eager to enjoy the good weather, the fun nights, our gastronomy and, of course, there were people who did not want to miss the new place: Aqualandia. Many of our first clients continue coming here. Now they come with their children or grandchildren. We love sharing this adventure with you from the beginning!
1985 was also a great year at an artistic level: it was when the legendary film ‘Out of Africa’ was launched and it triumphed in the Oscar awards. It was also the year of the famous ‘Material Girl’ by Madonna or ‘Cómo pudiste hacerme esto a mí’ by Alaska y Dinarama. The Madrid Scene was on the rise and nights were better than days. Additionally, the remains of the Titanic were discovered in 1985 and the famous videogame Mario Bros was put onto the market.
So many things occurred in 1985… although for us and for many people the most important thing was that we were pioneering, we brought a trend from abroad which today is so widespread in our country.
Swimming-pools, water slides, speed, adrenaline and non-stop fun in a new area located in a unique place. Benidorm was, and still is, the neurological centre of tourism and leisure. The vision of starting this adventure here was more than right, but it would not have been possible without all of you, the ones who visit us year by year and spend unforgettable days with us.
Thanks!
