Time is near to enjoy outdoor swimming-pools!
And of course, time is near for Aqualandia to open its doors and start a new season full of fun and lots and lots of water!
The beginning of a new summer is knocking at our door and we are sure that most of you are already thinking of your holidays. If you are thinking of spending some days of sun with your family or friends in our beloved Benidorm or its surroundings, we cannot think of a better option to fight the heat than visiting our water park, where you can cool yourself off in the multiple swimming-pools it is composed of.
We all love taking a dip in a swimming-pool, above all, children. The Spanish word for swimming-pool is piscina, but… what’s the origin of its name? Piscina comes from the Latin term pisces, which means fish (pez in Spanish). It is due to the fact that in the past, such water tanks were used for fish farming and were not used to have fun, to swim or to practise sports as today’s swimming-pools. Later, when Christianity arrived, the term piscina was used to refer to the baptismal basin.
There is a long tradition of artificial constructions aimed to bathing, such as the many sites of Roman Baths. The first public swimming-pools created for the citizen relaxation were inaugurated in the Roman Empire at the end of the 1st Century B.C., during the command of the Emperor Augustus. The largest swimming-pool built at that time is known as the Baths of Diocletian, a set of buildings of 140,000m2 where around 3,000 bathers gathered together every day. Swimming-pools had a very important role in the social life of that age, since they fostered public activities, fun and sports.
In Aqualandia, swimming-pools are the heart of most of our attractions. Throughout the entire park, you will find wide water areas where you can relax and cool yourself off with the best company and surrounded by a spectacular landscape. Or just a good place to land after a free fall in any of our over 20m high water slides. For children, we have a very special swimming-pool in our attraction called Adventureland, where everything is designed for them: water slides, water cannons, pools of balls, a children’s labyrinth and an endless number of activities.
On the contrary, if prefer the beach rather than the swimming-pool, we have the solution! We invite you to visit our fantastic wave pool, one of the most visited and valued attractions in the park. It is a large pool, with a progressive depth and… waves! You do not have to choose between beach and swimming-pool any more, in Aqualandia you will feel like being in the Mediterranean Sea. It is a moderated attraction where fun is granted both for children and adults. You will feel like you are in the beach, but with the comfort of a swimming-pool.
Do not hesitate anymore! Let swimming-pools and fun become the heart of your holidays this summer.
